In May, one of Early Stage Researchers, Jamie Gooding, attended the 26th International Conference on Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics (CHEP2023) in Norfolk, VA (USA) to represent the SMARTHEP network. He’s given a summary of the event: “The conference brings together experts in High Energy Physics and computing to share results, experience and best practices. In a 15 minute talk, I presented the status, achievements and intentions of the network to the wider community. I have submitted proceedings for this talk, which should be published in Spring 2024. Contributions of the network were also well represented at the conference, with work of network and network-adjacent participants appearing in talks on data compression, experiment triggers and flavour tagging. Outside of the conference sessions, I had the opportunity to network with experts in the field and to explore Norfolk. After a busy week I took sometime to explore the US East Coast before returning to Dortmund.”
