Following the success of last year’s SMARTHEP programme meeting at Lund University (Sweden), the SMARTHEP network gathered at Milan-Bicocca University in Italy during the first week of October. We had updates on real-time analysis in LHC experiments and industry from the Early Stage Researchers, discussions on a variety of topics from hybrid computing architectures to LLMs, lectures on sustainable computing and ML ethics and governance, and work on a cool outreach project by INFN for a particle physics escape room.
We were delighted to be joined by members of our External Advisory Board: Ivan Kisel (University of Frankfurt) and Mike Sokoloff (University of Cincinnati) as well as industry representatives. We were also joined remotely by our Ethics Advisor, Savannah Thais (Columbia University).
